NON-URGENT CARE

Reducing healthcare costs through home visits.

What is Paramedicine?

Community Paramedicine is an emerging field in U.S. healthcare that utilizes the services and medical expertise of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics to serve the population. In such a program, EMTs and paramedics are integrated into the local healthcare system and overseen by emergency and primary care physicians to provide additional support to hospitals, municipalities, residents and insurance companies in several ways:

Who We Help:

Hospitals

Re-admission rates can be lowered by providing post-discharge home health checks by EMTs and paramedics. Directed by hospital physicians, at home post-discharge services will support patient compliance. Home visits may include checking vitals, reviewing prescriptions, therapy compliance as well as overall wellness. Family and physicians will benefit from peace of mind and patients have more confidence in their home health care compliance.

Hospital personnel can offer patients the option of calling local EMT/paramedic service instead of 9-1-1 for non urgent care. This will prevent possible unnecessary transport to the Emergency Room for those who do not need rescuing. Patients will be informed to call 9-1-1 for emergency care if appropriate.

Residents

Those suffering from non-urgent health care issues who seek an alternative to dialing 9-1-1 can utilize the expertise of EMTs and paramedics. This service could extend to those with specific medical needs such as diabetic or mental health monitoring in which hospitalization is not required. Education that 9-1-1 is not the only ambulance option for non-rescue medical care support.

Municipalities

Residents who need medical help, but not emergency rescue services, can call their local private ambulance for medical evaluation to reduce reliance on emergency calls for chronic or non-ER situations. Those in need of emergency medical care will have greater accessibility to use their municipal ambulance and fire service when dialing 9-1-1 through Community Paramedicine programs.

Insurance Companies

By reducing hospital visits and returns through the usage of EMT and paramedic home checks, insurance companies can support clients and provide options for medical care monitoring. Chronic conditions such as COPD, congestive heart failure, renal failure and other episodes may be addressed by non-emergency ambulance and EMT care reducing costs and improving access to medical care for clients.
